Buddy | Hypo Golden Albino Male Axolotl with Magnificent Fluffy Gills
Meet Buddy, the handsome golden gentleman whose magnificent gills appear to have their own dedicated styling team.
Buddy is a visually confirmed male hypo golden albino axolotl measuring approximately 25 cm long. His soft golden colouring, pale features and impressive feathery gills make him a striking adult axolotl for a carefully maintained freshwater aquarium.
Just look at those floofs. They are less like ordinary gills and more like an underwater feather boa, although Buddy insists they are entirely practical.
Buddy enjoys relaxing, observing household activity and appearing at the front of the aquarium whenever food becomes even remotely possible. He considers this excellent timing rather than snack-related surveillance.

What Is a Hypo Golden Albino Axolotl?
A golden albino axolotl typically displays warm yellow, cream and golden pigmentation combined with the lighter eyes and features associated with albinism.
The term hypo refers to reduced pigmentation, which can give Buddy his softer and more delicate golden appearance.
Buddy’s impressive external gills contain fine filaments that help him exchange oxygen with the surrounding water. They also make him look permanently prepared for a very formal underwater gala.
Buddy’s Aquarium Requirements
As a large adult axolotl, Buddy requires a spacious, fully cycled, cool-water freshwater aquarium with stable water conditions and plenty of usable floor space.
His aquarium should maintain:
- Ammonia: 0 ppm
- Nitrite: 0 ppm
- Nitrate: kept low through regular testing and water changes
- Cool, clean and properly dechlorinated water
- Gentle filtration with minimal current
- Good oxygenation without excessive water movement
- Sufficient floor space for a 25 cm adult axolotl
- Smooth hides and axolotl-safe aquarium décor
- No gravel or small stones that could be swallowed
- A nutritious diet of quality earthworms or suitable premium axolotl food
Axolotls must never be placed into an uncycled or incorrectly cycled aquarium. Little Lotl’s will ask a few questions about your setup before finalising the sale to help ensure Buddy is moving into a safe and suitable home.
Individually Photographed in Australia
Every Little Lotl’s axolotl is individually photographed and listed. The axolotl shown in Buddy’s photographs is the exact axolotl you will receive.
Each axolotl is unique, even when they share the same morph or display similar colouring.
Photographs are taken in natural lighting wherever possible to represent Buddy’s colouring accurately. His golden tones may still appear slightly different depending on aquarium lighting, camera settings and individual screens.
Additional photographs or videos can be provided upon request.

Recommended Add-On Products
Petworx WXA-102 Single Air Pump
Help keep Buddy’s aquarium gently oxygenated with the Petworx WXA-102 Single Air Pump.
This quiet, energy-efficient air pump has a single outlet and adjustable airflow control. It can be connected to a suitable sponge filter or airstone to support oxygenation and gentle water circulation without turning Buddy’s luxurious gills into windsocks.
Airline tubing, a non-return valve and the chosen air-powered accessory may be required separately.
Give Buddy a lush, natural aquarium feature with a Large Anubias Barteri live plant.
Anubias is a hardy, slow-growing plant that tolerates cool water and low lighting. Its broad leaves can create shaded areas and comfortable resting platforms while adding natural greenery to Buddy’s aquarium.
Attach the plant to suitable driftwood, rock or aquarium décor rather than burying its rhizome deeply in the substrate.
