Johnson | Axanthic Copper Male Axolotl with Cranial Glow
Meet Johnson, the distinguished copper king who appears to manage the aquarium with the quiet authority of a tiny aquatic landlord.
Johnson is a visually confirmed male axanthic copper axolotl measuring approximately 20–21 cm in length. His rich earthy colouring, impressive size and calm, curious temperament make him a striking addition to a carefully maintained freshwater aquarium.
As an axanthic copper, Johnson also displays a glowing cranial area under suitable UV lighting.
Under ordinary aquarium lighting, he is already a handsome copper gentleman. Under UV, he transforms into something halfway between a prehistoric dragon and a floating cinnamon scroll.
Johnson enjoys dramatic slow-motion walks across the aquarium, supervising nearby activity and staring directly into your soul whenever feeding time approaches.

What Is an Axanthic Copper Axolotl?
An axanthic copper axolotl combines warm copper pigmentation with reduced yellow pigment.
This can create rich bronze, chocolate, cinnamon, earthy brown and copper tones, often accompanied by distinctive freckles and darker features.
Johnson’s unusual genetics also produce a cranial glow under suitable UV lighting, adding another layer of visual interest to his already impressive appearance.
Axolotls generally prefer dim environments, so UV viewing should only be brief, carefully managed and never used in a way that causes stress.
Johnson provides the glow himself. Batteries, extension leads and tiny workplace safety inspections are not required.
Johnson’s Aquarium Requirements
Johnson requires a fully cycled, cool-water freshwater aquarium with stable water conditions and suitable floor space.
His aquarium should maintain:
Ammonia: 0 ppm
Nitrite: 0 ppm
Nitrate: kept low through regular testing and water changes
Cool, clean and properly dechlorinated water
Gentle filtration with minimal current
Smooth hides and axolotl-safe aquarium décor
Low or subdued everyday lighting
Adequate floor space for comfortable movement
A nutritious diet of quality earthworms or suitable premium axolotl food
Because Johnson is approximately 20–21 cm long, his aquarium should provide enough floor space for him to move, turn and explore comfortably.
Axolotls must never be placed into an uncycled or incorrectly cycled aquarium. Little Lotl’s will ask a few questions about your setup before finalising the sale to help ensure Johnson is moving into a safe and suitable home.
An uncycled aquarium can expose an axolotl to toxic ammonia and nitrite, leading to serious illness, organ damage or death.
It is also important to use axolotl-safe aquarium products, as many standard fish medications, chemicals and treatments are unsuitable for axolotls.
Individually Photographed in Australia
Every Little Lotl’s axolotl is individually photographed and listed. The axolotl shown in Johnson’s photographs is the exact axolotl you will receive.
Photographs are taken in natural lighting wherever possible to represent his rich copper colouring accurately. His appearance and cranial glow may still vary slightly depending on aquarium lighting, UV lighting and individual screen settings.
Additional photographs or videos can be provided upon request. Johnson is generally happy to participate, although he may assume every photography session is actually a scheduled feeding appointment.
