Meet Kirby Our Leucistic Juvenile Axolotls
Meet Kirby our gorgeous Leucistic juvenile axolotls, already showing the early signs of developing into beautifully freckled Dirty Leucistics!
Hatched on the 20th June 2026 , these youngsters have grown to approximately 14 cm or more and are continuing to develop beautifully.
Their lovely pale colouring is beginning to show delicate freckles, particularly around their faces, while some may also display subtle bluish or purple-blue tones through their gills.
With both Mum and Dad displaying beautiful Dirty Leucistic characteristics, we’re particularly excited to watch how these youngsters develop.
Their freckles may become more pronounced as they mature, giving each axolotl its own unique appearance.

What Makes These Little Lotls Special?
One of the most exciting things about raising Leucistic axolotls is watching their colouring change as they grow.
While some Leucistics remain relatively clean and pale, others develop darker freckles and speckles across their faces, heads and bodies.
These youngsters are already beginning to show some of that beautiful freckling!
Both parents have Dirty Leucistic characteristics, so there is good reason to expect that some of their offspring will develop increasingly noticeable markings as they mature.
Some juveniles may also display a slight bluish or purple-blue tint through their gills, adding another lovely feature to their appearance.
Please note: Freckling and gill colours can continue changing as axolotls grow. The extent of future markings cannot be guaranteed, and colours may appear different under various lighting conditions.
Carefully Raised at Little Lotl’s Australia
These juveniles have been raised with careful attention to their feeding, growth, water quality and overall development.
We place great importance on giving our young axolotls the best possible start, allowing them to develop naturally without rushing their growth.
Their ongoing care includes regular observation, appropriate feeding and clean, cool water.
Current Diet
Our juveniles are raised on an age-appropriate, varied diet that may include:
• Blackworms
• Appropriately sized chopped earthworms
• Quality axolotl pellets
• Occasional suitable treats
We provide transition feeding information to help maintain a familiar routine as your new axolotl settles into its aquarium.
Preparing for Your New Axolotl
Before welcoming your new little lotl, you’ll need a fully cycled, cool-water aquarium.
Recommended water parameters:
• Ammonia: 0 ppm
• Nitrite: 0 ppm
• Nitrate: Ideally below 20 ppm
• pH: 7.2–8.2
• Temperature: 14–18°C
Your aquarium should also provide clean, properly dechlorinated water, gentle filtration, suitable hides, low lighting and smooth, axolotl-safe furnishings.
At Little Lotl’s Australia, we recommend a 120-litre aquarium for one adult axolotl, with an emphasis on horizontal floor space rather than tank height.
As these juveniles continue growing, planning for their adult aquarium requirements now will help make their transition easier.
