Polly Waffle | High-Iridophore Copper Male Axolotl
Meet Polly Waffle, the spotted copper gentleman with maximum charm and absolutely no understanding of personal space when snacks are involved.
Polly Waffle is a visually confirmed male copper axolotl measuring approximately 21–22 cm in length. His rich copper colouring is covered with high iridophores, creating a distinctive shiny, spotted appearance that sparkles beautifully under suitable aquarium lighting.
Large, healthy and calm, Polly Waffle enjoys gracefully drifting through his aquarium, settling into comfortable observation posts and appearing at the front glass the instant food enters the building.
He has the relaxed manner of an underwater celebrity and the appetite of someone who believes every hand near the aquarium exists solely to deliver refreshments.

What Is a High-Iridophore Copper Axolotl?
Copper axolotls display warm earthy colouring that may include bronze, peach, caramel, chocolate and reddish-brown tones.
Their eyes, freckles and markings are generally softer and warmer than those seen in many darker axolotl morphs. Each copper axolotl develops an individual combination of colour, pattern and contrast.
Iridophores are reflective pigment cells that create shimmering, metallic or glitter-like highlights under suitable aquarium lighting.
Polly Waffle’s high-iridophore coverage gives him a particularly distinctive speckled appearance. His reflective spots catch the light across his rich copper colouring, making him look polished, patterned and slightly overdressed for a creature who spends most of his day sitting on the aquarium floor.
Polly Waffle’s Aquarium Requirements
Polly Waffle requires a fully cycled, cool-water freshwater aquarium with stable water conditions and suitable floor space for a large adult axolotl.
His aquarium should maintain:
Ammonia: 0 ppm
Nitrite: 0 ppm
Nitrate: kept low through regular testing and water changes
Cool, clean and properly dechlorinated water
Gentle filtration with minimal current
Smooth hides and axolotl-safe aquarium décor
Low or subdued everyday lighting
Generous floor space for comfortable movement
A nutritious diet of quality earthworms or suitable premium axolotl food
Because Polly Waffle is approximately 21–22 cm long, his aquarium should provide enough floor space for him to move, turn and explore comfortably.
Axolotls must never be placed into an uncycled or incorrectly cycled aquarium. Little Lotl’s will ask a few questions about your setup before finalising the sale to help ensure Polly Waffle is moving into a safe and suitable home.
An uncycled or incorrectly cycled aquarium can expose an axolotl to toxic ammonia and nitrite, potentially causing serious illness, organ damage or death.
It is also important to use axolotl-safe aquarium products, as many standard fish medications, chemicals and treatments are unsuitable for axolotls.
Individually Photographed in Australia
Every Little Lotl’s axolotl is individually photographed and listed. The axolotl shown in Polly Waffle’s photographs is the exact axolotl you will receive.
Photographs are taken in natural lighting wherever possible to represent his copper colouring, spotted pattern and reflective iridophores accurately. His appearance may still vary slightly depending on aquarium lighting and individual screen settings.
Additional photographs or videos can be provided upon request. Polly Waffle is generally willing to pose, although he may interpret the arrival of the camera as confirmation that catering is about to begin.
