Help Keep Aquarium pH Steady and Safe
Support stable water conditions with Little Lotl’s Axolotl KH Buffer 7.2.
This specialised powdered conditioner raises carbonate hardness, also known as KH, and helps maintain aquarium pH above 7.2.
Low-KH water has very little buffering capacity, which means pH can suddenly drop and create acidic conditions that may stress axolotls or contribute to acid burns.
KH Buffer gives your aquarium water a little extra backbone, helping stop the pH from behaving like it has forgotten the plan.
Why Is KH Important?
KH measures the carbonate and bicarbonate compounds that help resist sudden pH changes.
Suitable KH levels can help:
- Stabilise aquarium pH
- Reduce the risk of pH crashes
- Support safer water conditions
- Protect axolotls from acidic water
- Improve long-term aquarium stability
Soft tap water and low-mineral water can have insufficient KH, making regular testing especially important.
Why Choose Axolotl KH Buffer?
- Raises carbonate hardness effectively
- Helps stabilise pH above 7.2
- Reduces the risk of dangerous pH drops
- Supports stable aquarium water chemistry
- Contains added calcium
- Suitable for axolotl aquariums
- Suitable for freshwater tanks
- Made with chemically clean phosphates
- Designed not to significantly increase algae when used correctly
- Easy-to-measure powdered formula
Directions for Use
Add:
- 1 level teaspoon, or 5g
- Per 10 litres of aquarium water
This dose raises KH by approximately 7 dKH or 125ppm and helps stabilise pH above 7.2.
Dissolve the measured powder thoroughly before adding it to the aquarium.
Always test KH and pH before dosing, then retest after the product has mixed through the water.
Adjust gradually and avoid adding repeated doses without checking the current water parameters.
When Should I Use It?
Axolotl KH Buffer may be useful when:
- Tap water has a low KH reading
- Aquarium pH drops between water changes
- Soft water provides little buffering capacity
- Preparing water for a new aquarium
- Replacing carbonate minerals during water changes
- Testing confirms KH needs adjustment
Do not add KH Buffer simply because a water change is due. Test first, dose second and let the numbers steer the submarine.
Is KH the Same as GH?
No.
KH measures carbonate hardness and helps stabilise pH.
GH measures dissolved calcium, magnesium and other minerals.
An aquarium can have suitable GH but low KH, or suitable KH but low GH. Test both separately before adding buffers or mineral conditioners.
Important Aquarium Care
KH Buffer supports water stability, but it does not replace:
- A fully cycled aquarium
- Regular liquid water testing
- Suitable filtration
- Dechlorinated water
- Stable aquarium temperature
- Routine water changes
- Removal of waste and uneaten food
Before introducing an axolotl, the aquarium should consistently test at:
- Ammonia: 0ppm
- Nitrite: 0ppm
- Nitrate: within a safe and manageable range
Suitable For
- Axolotl aquariums
- Low-KH tap water
- Soft-water areas
- Freshwater aquariums
- New aquarium preparation
- Routine water changes
- Aquariums experiencing falling pH
- Australian axolotl keepers
Complete Your Water-Care Kit
Measure carbonate hardness and general hardness before using buffers or mineral conditioners.
Add calcium, magnesium and trace minerals when testing shows the aquarium’s general hardness is too low.
Treat new tap water by removing or detoxifying chlorine, chloramine and other unwanted compounds before it reaches your axolotl.
API Freshwater Master Test Kit
Monitor ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH during cycling and routine aquarium maintenance.
Put a Buffer Between Your Tank and Trouble
Stable water parameters are one of the foundations of healthy axolotl care.
Use Little Lotl’s Axolotl KH Buffer 7.2 when testing shows that your aquarium needs additional carbonate hardness and stronger pH stability.
Order Axolotl KH Buffer from Little Lotl’s Australia today and help keep your aquarium water steady, balanced and ready for its underwater resident.
